L'Oreal X-Tenso Hair Straightening

Hi,

I'm south asian. Have very thick black hair that is mildly wavy, rather than curly. I often straighten my hair, but, ceramic/IR straighteners just don't seem to work.

I came across the L'Oreal X-tenso system. A local reputable salon does it for 40 GBP. Has anyone had the treatment done? Also, I'm worried about the chemicals wrecking the chemical structure of my hair.

Also, how does the X-Tenso system compare with the Brazilian Keratin straightening system?

I'm not sure whether to get the treatment done, but the price seems to be attractive. :s-smilie:

Any feedback would be much appreciated

I think you should leave it and have it natural  I have thick dark dark brown/black hair and I'm asian too, but I hardly ever straighten it now. I guess, yeah its really hard to look after, but I get a lot of compliments for my hair.

I can't compare to any other make, but we use that brand in the salon I work in. It's very good, you can use it "cold" which eliminates some curl/frizz but is not sleek, or "hot", which give the hair the straightened look. Hot is the better option. However, £40 seems waaaaay too cheap. It costs about half that to purchase into a salon and takes around 2-3 hours to carry out the service. In my salon, we charge around £80. It's so lengthy because you have to be so precise. It can often take two people to carry out the service because you can't use clips to hold the hair up to straighten it, (to complete the hot treatment) hence the price. (Time, Manpower, product).

Chemically, the product damages your hair similarly to colour or prelightener. It breaks down the bond in the hair that give our hair it shape, then by straightening the hair it is "set" into place. A neutralizer is applied to seal those bonds back into their new shape. We don't recommend clients colour and chemically relax their hair as it can completely ruin the hair. It's important to use the proper after care too.

Bear in mind the regrowth too, this product grows out, so like a colour, it will need to be reapplied to the roots every few weeks/months, and until you do that, you'll have to straighten that out.

It also takes a week or two for the hair to "settle" after the service - it can be too flat at first, but after a few washes and the smallest (millimetres) or regrowth will help.

Hope I helped!

With the "hot" version, are you talking about the X-tenso Cera Thermic treatment??

Meh, I can't remember the exact names to be honest. There's two versions you can do, but they come from the same bottle, there's just a couple of extra steps.

Personally I wouldn't. You'll have to get it done regularly and it will no doubt damage your hair, and cost an absolute fortune in the long run! What brands of straighteners have you used? I've heard good things about the Corioliss C2 (titanium plates) as an alternative to GHD etc.

I see. The actual price might be more than £40 actually. Do you think £100 would be too much for the treatment? Also, I don't want to spend around 20 mins/half an hour everyday straightening. I'm happy to have it done regularly. Like every 3/4 months. I guess it'll be like paying rent. It kinda makes me sad not having good-looking hair, so I guess it'll make me feel better, mentally.

Depends where you're from to be honest, in a city, I would expect that and more. I don't know whether it would be cheaper for your regrowth to be done - our root touch ups are only a few pounds cheaper. Doing the roots is just as time consuming as the whole head.

:frown: so expensive.

It is lol, sorry!

Would you say X-Tenso is the best semi-permanent hair straightening treatment??

Like, I said, I have only used L'Oreal, so I can't compare sorry! I think it's all down to personal experience - what works for you, might not work for someone else.

Hey I was just wondering if you did this treatment in the end? I was thinking of doing it, my local salon charges around £38 I think.

Dear Kiramayz
I am a qualified hairdresser in UK and used both x-Tenso cold and Cera Thermic. Both will not totally straighten the hair no matter what the adverts says. I tried it on my own hair and my daughter's and also several customer with different hair type the result is good but not very straight and it only last 2-3 month depending how oftern you wash your hair.
the only straightner which gives good result and last until regrowth is the Brazilian type no other does it.
