Ok. Trying to write an essay about how humans use ATP.

I know it is provides energy when broken down to assemble molecules... so when its used in DNA replication does it just provide the energy to join the nucleotides?
But how can I go into detail about it in the essay :frown:
anyone out there lol!

One major use is to power membrane pumps such as the sodium potassium exchanger.

It is used in DNA replication to unwind the DNA, to propel the enzymes that are replicating it along the strands and in that mechanism to bind bases together along one strand.

Other uses include powering enzymes that take a certain amount of time to break down the ATP, and while it is bound they are activated. It is used in all of the synthetic pathways.

ATP is used in glycolysis to phosphorylate glucose to GP

It's used in very fast muscle contractions in which ATP is broken down to ADP (adenosine tri-phosphate) by Phospho-creatine (cp)

And indeed used in all muscle contractions.

Maintenance of body temperature.

Maintenance of body temperature.

Not really, respiration itself does this, but for maintenance of temeprature the cells can produce proteins that decouple the electron transport chain allowing the proton gradient to run down. Perhaps you could say ATP does this at a low level though.
