people can be naturally thin!!!

hey all, i seriously need a break from revision!!!
can anyone answer me this, why do people assume that slim = eating disorder? it's so frustrating!! i'm 16, 5'4'' and a size 6-8 so i'm petite. i have a friend who's anorexic and she is like a stick literally. i wish i could help her see that she's not fat but she regards food as an enemy.

i'm healthy and i eat like a fricking horse so i don't look in any way like i have an eating disorder. i mean i'm slim but not like the stick thin celebs whose bones stick out.

i hate it when people who are perfectly normal say things like 'oh, i wish i was as thin as you'. it know it may be a compliment and i'm not complaining about how i look coz i'm happy with the way i am but i just wish people would let go of some social stereotypes. look at mischa barton who plays marissa on the OC; she's naturally slim and i recently read an article where the writer said she was too thin and she's not.

i have a high metabolism and i'm working at gaining weight. don't people realise that there are those who are just naturally slender?

Just ignore them and count yourself lucky. They are just jealous. You'll be the one laughing when you're 30 and still thin, and they've all got big mumsy bums.

You're lucky. I expect they're jealous and/or making incorrect assumptions.

There's a lot of misunderstaning with EDs, so people assume that EDed people (read: anoretics) are always thin (and not necessarily so), so obviously thin people are all EDed too.

It totally shows a lack of thought regarding EDs, so much more than the sufferer's weight. Plus, it is simply callous to tell anybody outright that they have an "ED", what if you really did? How insensitive??

Hell, I'm jealous of you, but it's just wrong to throw around disorders so casually. Like, would you yell out, "OMG you schizo!" if someone was acting like that?

Is she not? I think she is. And I think it is good that it is being pointed out that she may be too thin, as it is about time the media stopped singling out the unrealistically skinny celebs as having the "ideal" shape. Yes there are people (such as yourself) that are naturally skinny, and fair play to you...but I don't think it should be projected as being the desired shape as for many people it is unhealthy and unreachable.

i blame the media for the rise in eating disorders amongst other things.

there is so much pressure to look thin. i'm pretty average for my height and weight and a size 12/14
but i feel fat. why? because every picture i fricken see of people is where they are like a size 8 or less.

i'm aware there are people whoare naturally thin, my stepsister is and i agree its unfair to assume they have an ED but a lot of celebrities admit to being on these "diets" and that is unhealthy.

In response to the original post, yeah, I have a couple of friends like that. One's male, 5ft10, and weighs under 9st. Yet he eats like a horse...and never puts on weight! It annoys him quite a bit... Then I have another, female friend who's 5ft8 and also thin.

I know it can be annoying, but, at the end of the day, just think. You don't have to worry about daft diets, and you're likely to stay looking good for ages.

Yes, we all need to learn, the shape we are IS the shape we are. Unless you're chronically overweight, I don't agree with dieting or anything like that.

i used to be like that, i ate loads and yet could not put any weight on. Do you do a lot of exercise? I used to which probably helped my metabolism, but since stopping most of my exercise (which i really should start up again! :p: ) I put on weight.

sorry, i donno what i meant to get across there really. just maybe if you really want to put on weight you have to review what things you do that'll help you do that. and watch your metabolism rate, because with me i think coming out of puberty (when you naturally need more food in order to grow, etc.) it reduces that rate , which for me probably caused my weight gain.

I don't find thin girls attractive at all so I have no idea why the hell they put themselves through so much pain. There is someone out there for you and you will find them when you are meant to. It is fated to happen. Nothing in this world happens by chance!

Meh, bloody grrrr! I wish I was naturally slim, not 'thin' though, 'thin' is minging. In order to stay reasonably slim (my weight fluctuates, but I never get fat) - I have to exercise frequently and eat the equivalent of 7 lettuce leaves and a celery stick in calories every day.

I wasn't given a metabolism.

I'm a guy, and pretty slim but athletic too - I play a fair bit of sport. I'd love to put on weight and be a bit more "meaty" lol, but it seems i'm going to have to seriously up my calorie intake as i already have more than my fair share of fast food and snacks.

My plan for the summer is to work out a lot and take protein supplements.

Saying that, I've been incredibly attracted to larger curvy girls and thin girls too... I find a nice face is the most important thing, at least when sober.

I weigh about 8 stone (male, about 5 foot 10 ish). I eat all the time. From when I wake up to when I sleep. Every 5 minutes I go into the kitchen to find something.

When I was in years 10 and 11 I ate one of those massive 150g (ish) milky bars every day as part of my lunch. Didn't do anything to my weight over the 2 years. It's not even like I put an extra stone on. Just consistently hovered around 8 stone.

I cannot put weight on but I really wish I could. :frown:

I wish I was naturally thin, I have a really crappy build for someone short so I always look stumpy. I've been trying to lose weight since I was about 12 but have never managed it. I have no discipline when it comes to food! Supposed to be losing weight at the moment before the may balls but I'm still eating crap. No point to this post, sorry, just a random rant. :frown:

My friend is like you, shes so thin! When i first saw her, and for about a year after that i thought she was anorexic becasue she is so so thin. Then i got to know her and she eats like a horse, i don't know where she packs it away!

Heavens - that is underweight. I'm 6 ft and weigh over 12 stone, which I would say is about right.

i think people have a problem with the celebrities who lose weight suddenly, and then claim they were like that all along. i doubt paris hilton, nicole richie and lindsay lohan are as thin as they are without diet and excercise. after reading several articles about mischa barton recently, and what she eats (yes, i know you shouldn't beleive everything you read in the press!) i'd be very surprised if she was naturally that thin as well. naturally slim, yes, but naturally that thin...?

Mischa Barton is a stick. Far too thin.
