Getting your first student finance payment

Starting uni or college can often be a stressful time for students. Here at Student Finance England, we have designed a payment guide to make sure you get your student finance on time. For more information on payment dates and late applications you can visit the official payment page.

If you haven’t received your student finance payment when you expected, see our ‘payment not received’ section.

 

Once you have applied for student finance and submitted any evidence we need from you, there are a few other things you can do to help make sure you get paid as soon as possible.

 

1. Check your bank details are correct

We pay your Maintenance Loan directly into your bank account so it’s important that your bank details are up to date!

Log in to your online account to check that your bank details are correct. If not, you can change them in the ‘your finance’ section. You should do this at least 4 working days before your payment date, which can also be found in the ‘your finance’ section. 

 

2. Register on your course

Before you get paid, you must register on your course. Once your university or college confirm your registration to us you can expect payment into your account within 3 working days.

 

3. Check your payment status

Your payment status will tell you if there are any actions you need to take. It can be viewed on your online account in the ‘Your finance’ section. Find out more about your payment status on our official payment page.

 

4. Get paid

Once your payment status shows ‘Payment in progress’ you can expect your Maintenance Loan to show in your account within 3 working days. If you still don’t receive your money after 3 working days you should contact your bank before contacting us.
