The conservatoire has a small yet diverse international community and welcome applications from students around the world.

Leeds College of Music facilities

The campus at Leeds College of Music, including our studios, bespoke ensemble and rehearsal rooms and MacLabs are open until 3am, letting you work to your own timetable. 

With our 70 teaching and practice rooms, seven recording studios (including an SSL G Series console) and three mixing studios (one with 5.1 Surround Sound), at Leeds College of Music you study and create in a thoroughly professional environment. 

The Conservatoire boasts six fully equipped Mac Labs, with an outstanding computer-to-student ratio and in-house Apple-trained tutors. In addition to this, there are seven industry-standard recording studios equipped with analogue desks, three mixing rooms and an SSL G Series console linked to the main auditoriums for live studio sessions and recording performances.

We are the only conservatoire with All-Steinway status in England, meaning that 90% of our pianos come from the Steinway & Sons family – including two Model Ds.

The brand new music library (opening 2017) will house one of the UK’s most comprehensive jazz archives as well as quiet study spaces, access to around 8000 books, over 30,000 items of  printed music, 11,000 CD's, 700 DVD's & 9,000 LP's.

You will have plenty of opportunities to perform in our own dedicated performance spaces include the 350-seat Venue and 120-seat Recital Room as well as outside of the college.

In addition to the conservatoire, Leeds is home to three universities and a number of colleges, creating a student population of over 250,000.

The city is full of independent record shops, recording studios, music venues, craft stalls, art galleries and museums, as well as a thriving creative community of artists, illustrators, musicians, designers, actors and entrepreneurs. Known for its numerous fairs and festivals, the city is home to a brand new 13,000 seat arena - The First Direct Arena - designed to give the best acoustic experience of any large venue in the country.

Leeds College of Music's campus is situated in the heart of the Leeds cultural quarter, which is home to creative institutions such as the Northern Ballet, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the BBC.

There are lots of places to live on and around campus. Many first year undergraduate students take a room in Joseph Stones House, a nine-storey complex managed by Unite Students and situated on campus. We also allocate rooms at One Mill Street, a large development managed by Unipol Student Homes, which is approximately 4 minutes’ walk from the conservatoire. Both can be booked through our Accommodation team. Weekly rent, inclusive of utilities, wifi and basic contents insurance, ranges from £120 – £191 (2017-18 prices).

Alternatively, there are several privately run halls of residence in Leeds, as well as a huge range of private or shared accommodation, including accommodation for students under 18.

Leeds College of Music organises several Open Days throughout the year where you have the opportunity to visit the conservatoire and discover more about the courses they have on offer.

As well as providing information, talks and demos specific to the courses you're interested in, the Open Days give you the opportunity to chat to members of the Student Support Team about careers, support for students with disabilities, application issues and more – and Student Ambassadors are on hand to take you on tours of the accommodation and campus facilities.
