Top FAQs

How far is the campus from the town centre and what is the public transport like?

Greater Manchester has great public transport links, making getting to campus and around the city convenient, accessible, and safe. The University is perfectly placed for cycling and walking, and you will be able to get to most places in the city centre within 20 minutes or so from campus. Manchester has a huge number of bus services and there are numerous bus stops within a short walking distance of the campus.

There is also an extensive tram network, which runs through the city centre and extends out to Eccles, Bury, Rochdale, Ashton-under-Lyne, East Didsbury, Altrincham, and Manchester Airport.

Manchester has 4 main train stations: Oxford Road, Piccadilly, Deansgate and Victoria making it a very accessible city. Oxford Road Station is the closest train station to our All-Saints campus (a 10-minute walk away).

What social events do you offer when people first join to help people make friends and settle in?

The University hosts a series of free welcome events for new students to help you find your way around campus and make some new friends. We hold all welcome events during our welcome week before you start your studies. You can enjoy campus-wide events designed to support you in transitioning to university life.

What's university welfare and disability support like?

Going to university can mean a lot of changes; living on your own for the first time, meeting new people and experiencing new situations. We have a range of support available to help you look after your wellbeing throughout your time at Manchester Met.

Support options include:

  • Well-being advisers, who offer appointments and daily drop-in services.
  • Professional counselling and mental health support, in one-to-one sessions, therapeutic groups and practical courses.
  • Online self-help resources.
  • Workshops and courses to help with issues such as anxiety and sleep.
  • The chaplaincy centre offers pastoral support and spaces for quiet reflection.

Students with disabilities can access support with the Disability Service at MMU- we set up support plans for students with long-term conditions. We can recommend adjustments and support for academic departments to put in place. We can also advise you about applying for disability-related funding. Support and advice from our disability team are tailored on an individual basis to help you get the most effective support for you.

What sort of societies are there?

At Manchester Metropolitan University Student's Union, we have over 100 societies and over 45 sports clubs you can be a part of. Joining clubs and societies gives you a chance to meet new people who share your interests and try something completely new. We have everything from a debating society to K-pop and go-karting! If we don’t have a society, you are interested in joining you can make your own!

What percentage of your students are in a full-time job after graduating and do you offer graduates any support?

91% of our graduates are in full-time employment approximately 15 months after graduating.*HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2018/19 graduates. UK, full-time, first degree respondents.

At Manchester Met, we have an excellent careers team who will support you during your studies and even after you have graduated and are part of our Alumni community. There are several things our team can help with from; Writing cover letters and CVs, preparing for interviews, helping you gain volunteer or part-time paid work experience and much more. 

We often have graduate events such as: speaking to employers, work placement fairs and graduate job fairs. These events will allow you to meet with employers offering graduate jobs and internships to find out what they are looking for and possibly apply. There are several graduate schemes we advertise for businesses every year, which you may wish to apply for and get involved in once you have graduated. We also have 'My Career Hub' which is exclusive to Manchester Met students and graduates, our jobs board is available to you for life! You can check out the job board for new vacancies from local and national employers during your studies and graduate jobs. 

Travel information

The University is just a five minute walk away from Manchester Oxford Road Railway Station. Everything in the city centre is within walking distance; from shops and restaurants to bars, train stations and local attractions, they are all close to one another. You can very easily navigate the city on foot, but if you want to give your feet a rest, there is no shortage of regular buses, taxis and trams.
