Student Life in Southampton

There’s more to uni than lectures and learning. It’s a whole new world! Whether you’re living at home or moving out for the first time, university offers a thousand different choices. The people you hang out with. New sports or hobbies.  New scenes, new styles, new you. It’s the perfect opportunity to experiment.

We know it can seem a little daunting, all that choice. So we do everything we can to help –welcome week events to ease you into student life and introduce a whole world of opportunities in everything from sports to nightlife. Advice and support on everything from mental health to finances, from accommodation to course help. Plus whole teams just waiting to help, from your course reps to the Students’ Union or the Student Hub.

And the Solent campus is both compact and community-focused, compared to other universities; designed around some lovely social spaces and cafes, it’s the perfect place to chat, relax and make new friends, mixing with students from all different backgrounds and courses. So stick around between your lectures – grab a coffee, make friends for life.

Starting uni’s the start of something really special. And it’s all here for you.

Our city

We’re a city centre campus, which means everything Southampton has to offer is right on your doorstep. If you’re looking for arts, culture, sports or entertainment, then the south-coast’s biggest city delivers it all – and it’s one of the south’s most affordable places to live, too.

Solent is wrapped up in the city – its people, its events. We’re an active part of Southampton’s warm, welcoming and diverse local community: working with our city partners and neighbours to celebrate Pride, supporting the local marathon, helping put on film and music festivals, and much more.

And Southampton is a great place to launch your career. Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it here – and our close ties with businesses of all kinds, all across the city, help us deliver the essential professional experience you’ll need to start your future with a bang.

But why wait until you graduate to get started? Our Solent Creatives agency connects our student freelancers with the businesses that need their skills, our health and fitness students deliver popular community coaching programmes, and Re:So – our award-winning retail outlet – is run and stocked by our talented students and their design and fashion creations.

With everything you need for student life and beyond, we can’t wait to welcome you.
