Where is Teesside?
Teesside University is in the centre of Middlesbrough in North East England.
Our campus is easily accessible by car or train and is only a ten-minute walk from Middlesbrough railway station. Teesside International Airport is 13 miles away.
With excellent national road and rail links it's easy to travel to Middlesbrough from the rest of the UK. Local train services and a frequent bus service also make it easy for you to explore the lovely towns, villages, coast and countryside around the region.
Middlesbrough is one of the best value places to live in the UK and your money will go much further here than in lots of other university towns and cities. Just a few minutes’ walk from campus you’ll find quirky cafes, chilled out micro pubs, vintage clothes shops and an emerging collection of independent bars and retailers. The usual high street shops, museums, sports, restaurants, cinemas, clubs and parks are also close to hand.
Soak up some culture
There’s always something happening in the Boro – whether you’re up for a couple of craft beers at a local gig or a relaxing afternoon strolling around the modern art gallery, mima. There’s also a rock café, seasonal festivals, and some great theatre venues offering drama, live music, comedy and classical performances. Teesside's own Students' Union is a hive of activity and offers massive club and theme nights, live comedy, live music and live appearances from huge celeb names.
Eat, drink, chill
Independent cafes, artisan and vegan-friendly bakeries, delicious cocktail bars, stylish charcuteries, cosy vintage teashops, locally sourced produce and a dry bar are all just around the corner from campus. You’ll also find plenty of international restaurants offering flavours from around the globe. If you need a quick snack during the day you'll find the Students' Union shop stocked with treats - you can get hot food and sandwiches too.
Coast, countryside and the great outdoors
Teesside is an amazing place if you love being outside. Whether you want a lazy day in the country, a stroll along the beach or an adventure on one of the largest expanses of moorland in the UK – it’s all on your doorstep as a Teesside student.
Middlesbrough is a gateway to top surf, pretty coastal towns, wild expanses of countryside and the amazing Cleveland Way. Think ice cream, paddling in the sea, fish and chips, BBQs on the beach, wellies and pub lunches. If you like adventure, check out the Tees Barrage and enjoy some white water rafting on the River Tees (look out for friendly seals).
As well as the great mix of places and activities around the Tees Valley, Teesside University’s Students’ Union is a big part of student life at Teesside - and it's right on your doorstep.
The Students' Union (SU) is a hive of activity, events and fun.
It offers places to eat and drink, support, advice, social spaces, and a shop. It also provides a fantastic range of more than 90 active sports clubs and special interest societies including archery, futsal, climbing and cheerleading, as well as music, LGBT, airsoft, literature, Dr Who and battle re-enactment. There's also a job service to help you find part-time work.
The SU also puts on an incredible end of year party called Final Fling! Don’t miss it. Previous events have featured a fairground in the centre of campus and appearances from S Club Party, Wheatus and Vengaboys.
Teesside's Students' Union is one of the few students’ unions in the UK to provide a snooze room facility for students.
Teesside University is part of a select group of universities that are driving the future of digital literacy. The University is proud to be only Adobe Creative Campus in Europe. Sport and fitness
With 100 acres of quiet green space just a stone’s throw from campus, check out Albert Park for a quick jog – there’s a free 5km parkrun there every Saturday morning. Middlesbrough Sports Village is just down the road too – there’s an outdoor track, a skatepark, sports courts, 4G pitches and a velodrome.
Our beloved Middlesbrough Football Club is really close to campus – go see a game and check out the famous Temenos sculpture and Middlehaven Dock while you’re there.
If you want to play sport you’ll find a huge range of sports clubs to join at the Students’ Union – clubs include basketball, pole fitness, taekwondo, trampolining, running, rugby and wintersports. If there isn’t one to suit you, you can start a new one.
