Student Life in Leicester
The campus of the University of Leicester is compact and comprises of a wide range of twentieth century architecture with its oldest building dating back to 1837. The city of Leicester is a cultural hub full of history and cosmopolitan life. There is everything from museums and exhibitions to shopping and festivals to enjoy. Surrounded by one of the UK’s most attractive counties, the modern city flourishes with sport, arts, culture, and heritage. Leicester was also named the most affordable place to live for students by HSBC in 2014 and 2015. Facilities and attractions are available to suit every lifestyle.
Travel information
Seeing as Leicester is located in the heart of England, transportation to other parts of the country and world are easily accessible. One hour and ten minutes from London by train and only an hour away from Birmingham, some of the UK’s greatest cities are right at your finger tips. The Leicester train station is within walking distance from the University campus. Buses also come regularly to take you in and around campus.

Featured Societies

American Football
Leicester Longhorns is a strong sporting and social community. The team has 40+ members but we’re always looking to welcome new faces. If you’re keen, they’ll find you a spot within the team regardless of your previous experience. They’re backed by a team of coaches ready to prepare new and experienced players for the demands of the season. They have a solid history of team and individual achievement; they’ve been conference champions twice and graduating players have gone on to national senior league success and the NFL. The British Universities’ American Football League is very competitive and train and work hard to succeed.

AstRoSoc
AstRoSoc is a STEM society which engages in outreach, academic projects and socials. In the past AstRoSoc has arranged for its members to work with NASA and other space agencies in various outreach activities. Looking ahead to the next year we will be running Rocketry workshops, observing nights, and we will have several research groups with applications across the STEM subjects and beyond.

Cheer and Stunt
If you have a passion for dance, gymnastics or cheer and are interested in making amazing friends then cheerleading might be for you! It also helps to increase your stamina, flexibility and strength alongside helping you maximise your confidence! If all of this sounds interesting then join our squad, or at least come to one of our sessions and try it out.

Fencing
Fencing is a dynamic sport. Great for socialising or pushing yourself to your limit, it attracts every sort of person. We can take you as far as you want to go. Whether you want to make some new friends during and outside of training or you’re looking to hit a new level, we’re here to help.
