Australia, unlike the UK, has no central university applications system, instead you have to apply to each university separately. Because it can take a while to complete the application process and then you have sort out Visas and things before you leave, it's a good idea to begin applying to university between 5 and 12 months before the course is due to start.
It's worth looking into the application processes of all the universities you want to apply to well in advance because each may have a slightly different system.
You'll normally be able to apply online to the universities of your choice, however, there'll probably be a small application fee.
After you've submitted your application, you can expect to hear back about an undergraduate course 3 - 6 weeks later and 4 - 8 weeks later for a postgraduate course.
