Graphic Design Personal Statement 3
The way visual communication can engage people’s minds from a simple sign to an elaborate advert has always interested me. I wish to study graphic design as it is a subject I have developed a keen enthusiasm for. Doing this course, I want to create some exciting memorable work to communicate messages through all means of media. I also want to show my creativity and thinking outside the box whilst using my skills in drawing and design to express my own style in my pieces of work.
Currently I am studying Art, Business Studies and Product Design in which I feel I have acquired useful skills and knowledge which will enhance my study of graphic design. Art has given me the experience of expressing myself in very creative and imaginative ways as well as learning the aspects of realism which has enabled me to produce a various range of work in a number of different mediums. With the combination of Product Design, this has enabled me to produce ideas and drawings in a very realistic manner while maintaining high analytical points as well as problem solving thinking for a new initiative product. From Business Studies, I have been able to gain key business knowledge which would be a great beneficial aspect to me if I was to start up my own business in the future.
During my time at school, I have taken part in a number of activities such as being a member of the sixth form prefect team which has taught me important responsibilities in the school as well as enhancing my skills in teamwork. I participated in the Young Enterprise competition which involved creating one’s own business with a group of people. We created an award winning product which was a laptop wedge. This experience helped me in understanding skills required for working on an entrepreneurial level as well as working in a team under pressure to get complete deadlines.
Engaging in extracurricular art and design has given me the opportunity to help people at a more creative level. I have done a number of logo and book cover designs for a number of clients for which I received personal praise which was personally very motivating to me to improve myself. In addition, I consider myself to be a highly motivated and hardworking person who works well independently and with others.
In my spare time, I like to keep fit and participate in attending a local gym as well as commuting by bicycle to wherever I need to go. I also enjoy developing my graphical skills on the computer in order to have a good view on the knowledge needed. My other interests include travelling to different cultures around the world. Last year, I travelled to Barcelona which was a memorable experience as it made me more open minded as a person.
Throughout my time at school, I have been involved in a number of activities, and have also made an effort to maintain a good balance between this and my academic work. Being involved in and having the ability to give something back to my school has always been important to me, and it is something that I am keen to continue at University. My passion is graphic design and I look forward to further developing my ability at foundation and degree level.
