Personal Statement:Graphic Design Personal Statement
The course that I am interested in applying for is Graphic Design. I have a strong interest of advertising and design. I have gained this enthusiasm from doing modules and coursework in my GCSE and A level graphic design studies. I love the process of designing because I can see my design capabilities developing and it’s a chance to have some fun. I would love to take this subject further because I want to be in an occupation that I will enjoy throughout many years. Another reason for choosing to do this subject is because although my main interest is advertising design, I would be able to explore different aspects of Graphics. I hope to go down the route of advertising design, and working in business later on.
I believe that I am well suited for this course because I am hard working and dedicated to everything I do, putting 100% effort into designing to come out with something that I am really pleased and proud of. Also I believe that doing this course will get me to where I want to be in a few years time, doing something that I know I have worked very hard for. In addition, I have had a reasonable amount of experience working with teams of designers and sales people, in the processes of manufacturing, in my graphics course. One company that I have been lucky enough to work with and receive feedback from is Nissan manufacturers. I managed to get in contact with the workers that actually make the cars and also from the head office as well. Having been given positive comments from experts in the manufacturing of Nissan was a huge boost in my confidence for me to believe that I can do anything when I set my mind to it.
In relation to my studies, I have been studying graphic design as part of my school education for four years now, at GCSE and A level. Over the years I have seen my personal skills develop a great deal, by way of sketching, rendering and time management skills. This has helped me a large amount to get to where I am, and were I want to be. Other subjects that I am currently studying are Dance and Drama. All three subjects are very creative, and focus on the creative element rather than academics. I chose these subjects because not only do I excel, but I have a passion for these subjects. This started to guide me into the right direction with where I want my future to go.
Linking to this, dance is a huge part of my life which is a hobby that I have taken very seriously, by doing it for 14 years. I attend dance classes four times a week taking up to three classes in a day. It does take a lot of my time up, but it teaches me to manage my time efficiently. I have achieved a lot through my dance through competing in dance festivals and preparing for examinations. This makes me believe that I am capable of doing anything when I put the work into it. Dance is very important to me, it has built my confidence and has made me the person I am today. I also have a part time job, working at Smiths Farm Shop. I love my job, simply because of working with new people and also the staff. I found it quite easy to settle in and get along with the staff. I felt comfortable, because I adapted to the surroundings which was a good thing on my behalf and also others. I hold a responsibility of looking after the shop, helping customers and mainly, making the customers feel like they should come back to the shop. Getting this job was a great achievement for me because now it’s a part of my life and means a lot to me.
By studying on the course in mention, I would hope to achieve some experience of working in businesses in association with graphic design, and get my designing skills to a professional standard boosting my capabilities to become a successful graphic designer. I have a dream and I believe that going down this path would help me live the dream.
