Personal Statement:Tourism and leisure 1 - The Student Room

Tourism and Leisure Personal Statement

Since my childhood I was taught about the importance of education, reaching my aims, meeting with people who have already accomplished them – they have finished universities from which they got valuable experience and benefits which can be used in daily life. My goal is to do the same.

Firstly, when I made the decision to relate my future with the United Kingdom, not Lithuania, I was interested in many universities which offer tourism management. Yes, I have no doubt about my specialty, I just had to choose the best university for me and when I saw that you offer tourism management, I had no more questions, I was sure – this is the best for me! Plus, I wonder what programmes of studying you have, what job I could work after studies and information which I knew would justify all my hopes and wishes. Moreover, I read references of other students on the Internet and they inspired me for a new beggining. I admire the fact that this university is collecting youngsters from all over the world. I think it is a perfect way to meet new people, get to know their cultures and lifestyle, also, perfect my English skills. And it is a huge bonus for tourism management students because, during the upcoming studying years they can get to know their profession better.

I am applying for the tourism management course because I feel that it excellently fits into my career path, and also because I believe it will challenge and stimulate me, and help me reach my potential. I want to develop not only as a student but as an individual. I want to be part of a university that fully supports its students and encourages excellence. I want to succeed; I want to go the extra mile. I want to go to university to further my education, to grow as a student and as a person, and to gain independence in my education. I do not want to be average, I do not believe in just being average. I want to rise above and beyond and achieve things I never thought I can do. In ten years' time, I want to look back and say I had the best time of my life and, come out of a university with no regrets. I want to walk away with a professional qualification.

What concerns my personality, I am determined and open to new ideas. I am a courageous person who seeks his aims. It goes without saying that the most important goal in my life for the upcoming three years is tourism management studies in the United Kingdom. In my opinion it would be more professional, valuable and experienced than in my country. Moreover, I am a very communicative, friendly, optimistic (more or less but always optimistic), sincere and loyal person. I never had problems when working in a team (I was very active in my school – organising many shows and festivals in my class, also I was a quite good synthesizer player, it has always been my hobby, I loved to take part in all kinds of concerts and festivals) because I could communicate and work with all sort of people – which is a pleasure for me. I have a strong desire to learn, broaden, and to sharpen my thinking and learning skills. I fully understand how challenging my chosen course will be, as Tourism is an industry that never stays the same; it is forever diversifying and changing. I want to prepare myself as best as I can for a successful career within the industry, and I feel that by going to a university, it will allow me to do so. But especially for those who make the decision in their lifes connected with tourism. It means meeting many new people, learning new languages. I am prepared for this. I must say that I am not afraid hard work if it is necessary but the job itself must inspire me, helping to see myself as a young, vigorous, full of new ideas person. Tourism, surely, is just the right choice for me – always interesting, inspiring, challenging. I really do not think that it is always just a pleasure, I know that all things in life have hard sides but if you know that it is the only one thing which you want so badly, it should not create fear or negative emotions because everything depends on your attitude. Mine was always positive.

There are a lot of activities I like to take up during my leisure time but mostly I enjoy playing basketball, football, as these games help me develop communication and teamwork skills, but most of all I like to play the synthesizer. It gives me the opportunity to play with my ensemble and create something together. I like travelling and spending my free time actively, as I am not the kind of person who can sit with his arms crossed and do nothing.

I am looking forward to university life and all it has to offer. I fully intend to take advantage of the facilities and societies on offer at the university. I am a conscientious and inquisitive person; I have an outgoing and bubbly personality. I am polite and dependable. I have a strong enthusiasm to learn and discover new possibilities. I hope that studies and work in the tourism industry will give me delight and I will be able to share it with other people.
