Our four year MPharm course with integrated placements throughout is specifically designed to meet the rapidly changing requirements for the practise of pharmacy.
From the start of the course you will be encouraged to apply your understanding of the scientific principles of pharmacy within a patient focussed setting, through case based workshops, problem based learning, integrated scientific and clinical scenarios.
The course benefits from substantial links with the profession including consultant pharmacists, experts from pharmaceutical industry and pharmacy entrepreneurs. We have strong links with six large NHS trusts and a range of employers from the community and primary care sectors. This means we are able to bridge the gap between the student and career pharmacist at multiple levels â giving you an informed choice of how you might specialise and develop your career.

Develop the scientific base on which your skills as a pharmacist will be built, learn about the pharmacistâs role in the healthcare system and begin to apply your knowledge to clinical situations.
Extend your understanding of pharmaceutical sciences and perfect your ability to supply medicines safely and legally. This is supported by experiential learning in community pharmacy and hospital environments.
Develop your evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal skills to enable you to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of medicines. Apply prior scientific and clinical learning to the management of âreal worldâ, patients with multiple conditions, supported by intensive experiential learning opportunities in secondary care.
Develop your confidence in applying your pharmaceutical knowledge to maximise individual patient benefit from treatment, including in highly complex cases. Consider wider aspects of pharmacy such as overtreatment, de-prescribing, medicines optimisation, and personalised medicine. Undertake specialised experiential learning in a number of sectors of practice such as hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy and primary care.

The lectures are really informative and interesting, and the staff make a big effort to give you practical experience on top of the theoretical content, which is perfect. They also offer paid placement years on top of your degree, so you can get vital on the job experience that looks really great on your CV. The employability services in the SU are really dedicated and have loads of great opportunities too.
