Course details
Course UCAS code: BS01
Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time Including Foundation Year , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
- Experience a stimulating and rigorous introduction to professional acting. - Explore the building blocks of an actor's technique and learn what it's like to be a professional actor. - Expand and strengthen your vocal range and skills in movement with specialist classes and projects. - Bring together everything you've learned in a fully staged production at a professional theatre in Bristol. **Taught by Boomsatsuma** Develop your acting skills before you pursue a degree course with our Integrated Foundation Diploma in Acting, delivered in partnership with Boomsatsuma. You'll explore in depth some of the key building blocks of the actor's technique, and gain insight into the process and practice of being a professional actor. As the year progresses, you'll begin to acquire advanced skills and knowledge in preparation for further study. **Progress to our undergraduate Acting course** The Integrated Foundation in Acting can only be taken in conjunction with Bath Spa University's BA (Hons) Acting degree. On successful completion of the Integrated Foundation in Acting, you'll then go on to start your undergraduate studies in Acting.
Modules:
The foundation element is is a one-year course. You'll take five modules over two semesters, with 18-20 hours of taught time each week. Text Project: In this module you’ll explore the processes and skills required to interpret a text. Initial classes will cover various approaches and what you can take from each of them to build your own approach. A core part of this module will be voice classes to expand and strengthen your range of vocal expression when interpreting text. The Text Project will be the rehearsal of a play or scenes. You’ll learn how to rehearse professionally, how to put your acting process into practice and how to develop a character. Audition Preparation: You’ll learn how to approach both professional and drama school auditions. We'll work with you to find material that best demonstrates your skills and qualities; you’ll learn what auditioners are looking for, audition techniques including sight reading and self-taping. Study Skills: The module explores the writing skills you’ll need to research effectively and analyse and evaluate your practice. It's a preparation for thinking and expressing yourself at a Higher Education level. You’ll undertake an evaluation of a personal project and a short research task. Creating a Devised Theatre Production: In this module you’ll create a piece of theatre from stimulus rather than the interpretation of a text. It develops the skills that help you understand how fundamental movement is to the acting process, and culminates in a small-scale public performance. Foundation Project: The Foundation Project is a fully staged production in a professional theatre in Bristol. It’s the culmination of your learning and aims to bring together all the aspects of your emerging practice. You’ll be in full-time rehearsal five days a week, and the experience will mirror that of a professional actor in a professional production. Undergraduate degree: On successful completion of the Boomsatsuma Foundation in Acting, you'll progress to BA (Hons) Acting at Bath Spa University. Cows. Sheep. Swans. Squirrels. The Newton Park campus of Bath Spa University may as well be a zoo. Overlooking the rolling hills of Somerset, this picturesque, postcard-worthy place is perfect for the lovers of the natural world. All the essentials are here: we've got the general shop, on-campus doctors, the SU (with their unbeatable pizza meals), and of course the Starbucks. Everything is so close, you'll be able to roll out of bed and straight into a lecture. Campus is peaceful and tranquil most of the time, although you may be woken up rather early by the mooing cows outside your window.

Great, not a problem with anything, the only thing is that it may be frustrating to ask the university questions at times but whatever problem I have is solved within a few days.
