You develop the ability to link environmental processes with social and spatial behaviours which is a defining feature of geographical practice.

**More about the Professional Placement Year**
A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.
Year 1 introduces you to the exciting world of Geography, developing your foundational geographical knowledge and skills. You will get a taste of a variety of geographies, and there are plenty of opportunities to do fieldwork. Topics of study may include examining contemporary geographical issues and exploring key issues such as development and sustainability.
In Year 2 will start to specialise in your geographical interests, with a greater emphasis placed on research methods. You will learn a wide range of useful methods and techniques, both in the classroom and through fieldwork. There are also many optional modules to choose from.
Finally, Year 3 will see you further specialise and develop your skills as an independent scholar by undertaking dissertation research. There are further optional modules to choose from.
