Course Summary:
This four year programme has been specifically designed to allow students who do not initially meet the entry requirements for a three year degree, to undertake additional level 3 study designed to ensure they are successful on their chosen degree programme. After successful completion of your foundation year, you will have the flexibility to switch (should you wish to change direction) onto a number of related undergraduate degree programmes within Birmingham School of Media. This programme offers students the opportunity to develop creative and practical skills in media production. Students will work on projects in radio, television and online production, supported by staff with industry experience and visiting speakers from the world of media. Students will develop a critical understanding of creative production and digital storytelling techniques. They will work collaboratively on projects and produce a professional portfolio of work. On completion of the course students will be able to progress on to a media or media-related degree. We are a pioneering institution, delivering some of the first UK media degrees. The BA (Hons) Media and Communication is a dynamic course that gives you a choice of from a range of modules to complement your radio specialism, including music industries, TV and journalism, allowing you to mould your course to suit your future ambitions. With a strong emphasis on mirroring the workflow of the industry in our purpose-built media centre, we offer practical, professional preparation for a rewarding career. What's covered in the course? Helped by strong links with many influential media organisations, the course offers an industry-relevant blend of production, theory and professional studies.. Teaching takes place in our suite of radio studios and audio production suites, as well the TV and photography studios and editing suites depending on the modules you choose. This is in addition to the lecture theatres, seminar rooms, social learning spaces and online learning you would expect to find. You use blogs, create wikis, and employ social media channels and other interactive media to support your work and self-development. Why Choose Us? Enjoy the flexibility to opt for a general study of Media and Communication, or a specialist route in Radio, Television, Web and New Media, Journalism, Event and Exhibition Industries, Music Industries or Public Relations. You will benefit from at least two industry placements providing you with insight and contacts. We provide specialised, sophisticated equipment for every area in our £62 million home in the city centre, including six radio studios, four TV studios, the largest free-standing green screen in Europe, editing suites, music production studios and photography studios (including a half and a full infinity cove). Students will use blogs, create wikis and other interactive media to support their work and self-development. All staff at the School are established media professionals who bring with them a range of expertise. They are able to recognise and respond to the rapidly changing demands of the media, ensuring that the course remains relevant to the industry.

Birmingham (aka "Brum") is said to be the new London. The size certainly matches, but the famous tourist attractions may be a bit thin on the ground. However, the city feel and atmosphere is always present and you will never run out of things to do. Situated over 3 main campuses, BCU offers a huge range of experience of the city - you'll never finish exploring! Nights out in Brum are never disappointing, from the famous Broad Street to other amazing areas that you'll explore in freshers. Don't forget to try out the local "buz" that's going around town!

    4/5 souncs a bit harsh, but 9/10 is spot on. Personally for my course (Media and Communication) I find the university to provide the perfect opportunities and a wonderful studying environment as a whole. If you're doing media or anything related - go for it!
