This two-year course is an ideal choice for those looking to gain the theoretical and professional skills needed to enter the mental health profession; boasting a 100% graduation rate and accreditation by the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
Youâll learn how to enable, educate, and encourage those experiencing mental health problems to progress towards recovery, and as practical experience forms a central role of the course, youâll have many opportunities to work in various health care environments. As part of your placement hours youâll take part in the full cycle of care which includes shift working, weekends and night duty.
This is a pre-registration nursing course that has been adapted for those students who already have a degree. We also offer a BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing if you don't have a degree. Students on this PG Dip course will work alongside the BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing students; however some units will be grouped with other PG Dip students from other nursing pathways, and your academic tutor will focus on your individual development at Master's level.
As a Nursing student, you will spend 50% of your time on the course in a practice placement setting, and the remaining 50% studying - whether at home, at the library or on campus attending lectures, seminars or working under the guidance of our demonstrators in the Practice Skills suite. You will study a range of units including anatomy and physiology, communication, mental health wellbeing, humainsed care, physical care in mental health settings, acute care and supporting the recovery journey.

Bournemouth is an amazing student city, with new club nights on all the time and a great atmosphere. The beach is lovely and the centre of student life in the Summer. Everybody is friendly, with a great diverse student body. There’s loads of places in town - try the Buffalo, a short bus ride away from the centre but with amazing drinks and staff. The tutors are great, providing interesting and dynamic lectures and offering a load of support and guidance.

It was fine. The academics were the best part, and the archaeology department is excellent, all the staff are really friendly and they all know you by name cause the course is so small. The uni itself is not the best but definitely not the worst I've seen, and SUBU is pretty good. Accommodation is quite bad, but the quality of the housing is fine, there's just not enough of it. Student houses are usually awful, but there are some good ones around.
My overall uni experience has been pretty fine with Bournemouth.
