Course Summary:
The MMath Mathematics course offers you the opportunity to delve more deeply into pure and applied mathematics than is possible on a BSc course. This particular version of the degree allows you to spend your third year studying abroad before returning to Cardiff for two more years. The School of Mathematics has agreements with institutions across Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia, and you will have support to apply for your overseas year. The MMath course is an ideal preparation if you want to go on to work in research or for a technological company or simply want to gain a deeper understanding of mathematics and develop skills in demand by a range of would-be employers. This course has an essential core of pure mathematics linked with modules from applied mathematics, statistics, computing and operational research and you will sample all of these branches in your first year. Distinctive features Studying Mathematics at Cardiff: offers a sound basis of knowledge, understanding and skills in the main areas of mathematics encourages an understanding of abstract mathematical concepts, logical argument and deductive reasoning offers an education in mathematics appropriate for those intending to become professional mathematicians, or who wish to gain a deeper understanding of mathematics gives an opportunity to undertake a substantial mathematical project at an advanced level has an emphasis on independent learning This particular version of the degree allows you to spend your third year studying abroad before returning to Cardiff for two more years (please see above). Cardiff’s so good! Check out The Full Moon and ‘Sweatros’, you'll have so many massive nights. The city is perfect for students, everything is cheap and the housing is lovely. Everyone is incredibly friendly, so you'll feel really welcomed into the city by everybody. Join as many societies as you can, there’s loads of choice and you’ll make some dear friends here.
