Course Summary:
This HNC in Applied Chemistry will give you knowledge and understanding of chemical processes. It has been designed to cover a wide variety of chemical concepts and processes to give a broad range of career and progression choices upon completion. The course has a high practical content to improve confidence and ability in practical laboratory skills including developing skills in organic synthesis, purification and analysis. With the wide range of analytical instrumentation available you will also become confident using instruments such as IR spectrometers and flame photometers, developing the skills required for a modern analytical laboratory. Applied Chemistry will provide an introduction to higher level chemistry structured in a way to make it relevant to current industrial and commercial applied chemistry. The level of study sits between A Level and undergraduate level, building a framework of knowledge that will allow academic progression within this chemistry. It will also provide the sort of chemical knowledge and laboratory skills directly applicable to an industrial setting.
The course includes the following subjects: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Employability Skills, Chemical Laboratory Techniques, Analysis of Scientific Data and Information, Environmental Monitoring & Analysis and Biochemistry of Macromolecules & Metabolic Pathways.
Assessment Methods:
Assessment will be through assignments and practical assessments for each unit.
