Animation BA (Hons) at De Montfort University offers a challenging and exciting experience, supporting you to develop your skills in the production of 3D character animation, 2D animation, drawing, concept art, compositing and VFX. This course has close links to industry and you will receive regular input from working professionals and work to briefs set by industry. We have excellent specialist facilities including animation, recording and sound studios, editing suites and dedicated graphics studios, computer suites for lectures and practical workshops, screening rooms for viewing dailies and presentations, VFX green screen, exposure to latest software and motion capture facilities to ensure you achieve the high level of professional skills required by industry. 97.3% of DMU graduates from summer 2017 are in work or further study after graduating, according to the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) 2016-17 report.

Our vibrant studio culture encourages you to achieve your full potential. Teaching is delivered primarily through lectures and practical sessions, with access to keynote lectures and support from industry mentors. Practical classes provide hands-on experience of creating animation and manipulating VFX tools. Extensive use is made of web based tools - including Facebook - to support an enthusiastic course community. Tutorials are used to provide feedback and a framework for ensuring you see improvements in your work. Additional learning materials are also offered online.
Assessments include regular presentations of artwork and reports for peer, tutor and industry critique. You will produce your own showreel of professional standard work, guided by experts from the animation industry and the teaching team. We work closely with leading companies such as CITV, Double Negative and RJDM Studios. Industry representatives make regular visits to give presentations and review showreels.
You will normally attend around 12-16 hours of timetabled taught sessions each week, and are expected to undertake at least 24 further hours of directed independent study and assignments as required.

De Montfort University is brilliant for those wanting to express their creative skills through a degree. The university itself is just 10 minutes from the city centre and with shops almost on campus itself there is a choice of places to grab a bite to eat for those students nights where cooking isn't an option. As for nightlife the The city's pubs and clubs are close to the uni, most are on one street so walkingis no worry.
