Course Summary:
This is a wide-ranging archaeology course that harnesses your passion for history through researching historic sites, material culture and museums. The course emphasises interdisciplinary learning and skills. You will have the option to study the material remains of the ancient, medieval and modern worlds, with an emphasis on the last 600 years. You can take modules in History, Classics, Ancient History and other related subjects in departments across Durham. Key themes include the archaeology of industrialisation, conflict archaeology, colonialisation, transatlantic connections and south-east Asian trade. **Year 1** Compulsory modules: Archaeology of the Medieval to Modern World / Archaeology Practicals / Historical Archaeology: Methods and Sources. Optional modules may include: Archaeology in Britain / Cities in Antiquity / Ancient Civilizations of the East / Discovering World Prehistory. Plus: Up to TWO modules from History or ONE module from any another department including Ancient History and Classics. **Year 2** Compulsory modules: Professional Training / Developing Archaeological Research / Debates in Historical Archaeology. Optional modules: Archaeology of Medieval and Post-Medieval Britain / Becoming Roman / Ancient Mediterranean Civilisations: East and West / Advanced Skills (Single or Double) / Up to TWO modules from History / East Mediterranean in the Bronze Age Plus: ONE module from another department including Ancient History & Classics or ONE module from the above AND a language module. **Year 3** Compulsory modules: Dissertation (Double module) / Specialised Aspects in Archaeology.     It's a great uni with a really welcoming and active student community. The courses are well-taught, there are so many opportunities to get involved and find things you like whatever your preferences are.

    Poor. Don't bother unless you can afford the sky-high cost and the constant overbearing pressure of being a 'top-tier' uni. It isn't worth the illness.
