Computer-aided mechanical engineering is a blend of mechanical engineering, computer aided engineering and systems design engineering. A form of âvirtual engineeringâ, it allows engineers to test new products or systems without having to build expensive prototypes. The engineer can design a product or system and use computers to simulate real stresses that may result from applied loads.
This programme has been designed with industry inputs and uses standard industry software such as PTC Creo and ANSYS to give you an understanding of the fundamental principles of engineering â design, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), materials and manufacturing methods â as well as learning how to provide solutions to complex engineering problems.
All of GCUâs engineering programmes are accredited by UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) and the University has excellent links with industry, providing access to case studies, projects and work experience.

Glasgow was incredible, I was genuinely surprised when I arrived here. Don’t believe the hype, Glasgow is a bustling metropolis with loads of amazing bars, coffee shops and markets (The Barras is a godsend for decorating your flat) to whittle down your student loan. Caledonian is also a lovely university – I was seriously impressed by their support services, they were very accommodating and helped me out with bursaries and applying for various schemes. They were really dedicated to making sure I was able to achieve my degree with the minimum of financial and health stresses, and I’m very grateful!
