At Keele University, weâre different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. Weâre proud to be âUniversity of the Year for Student Experienceâ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because itâs more than green and lovely, itâs a place of research and academic excellence too.
The programme is focused around developing Childrenâs nurses who are inquisitive, clinically astute, intelligently adaptable, and able to respond to the current and future needs of children and young people. You will learn how to put children, young people and their families at the centre of your care.
Our Childrenâs Nursing degree adopts an innovative curriculum model integrating theory and practice elements, which upon successful completion, contribute to admission to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Register. A variety of teaching and learning strategies are used throughout the programme and self-directed study is encouraged to promote independent learning and the development of lifelong learning skills. The development of clinical skills is an integral part of the programme and is supported in practice placements by qualified mentors and in the excellent clinical skills laboratories by experienced lecturers.
The programme also encompasses an innovative assessment strategy and student support is taken seriously with each student being allocated a personal tutor and having access to a variety of academic and pastoral advice services. Alongside these services a peer mentoring system is employed in order to support you through the Childrenâs Nursing degree.
Placements for the Childrenâs Nursing degree run throughout the 3 year course and have been developed to reflect the reality of the journey children and young people experience when receiving healthcare. Placements will be undertaken within the acute hospital childrenâs setting and in a variety of community areas, which may include Childrenâs centres, schools and with the childrenâs community teams. All of which will help you prepare for a career within Childrenâs Nursing.
