Qualification type:
  • BSc (Hons), Sandwich With Time Abroad , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. At Keele, studying a combined honours degree will include some modules from both of the single honours degrees. In this case, your programme will be made up of a combination of modules from both Geology and Physical Geography. This course provides a great opportunity to combine different approaches to studying the world around you. Physical Geography focuses on landscapes and environmental change whereas Geology examines the structure and history of the Earth, its processes, materials and resources. These subjects offer a strong fieldwork programme to destinations in the UK and overseas. The course includes a balance of physical geography and geology topics, as well as material from complementary disciplines such as meteorology, geomorphology, geophysics, and environmental science. You will learn about the history of the Earth, its past and present environments, and the planet’s resources and hazards. You will look at the Earth as a global system, including the causes and effects of global environmental change. There is strong emphasis on developing both laboratory and fieldwork skills. Combining fieldwork, practical classes, tutorials and lectures, this course provides a diverse range of specialist options. You will focus particularly on research skills: you will learn to collect, analyse and interpret different types of data, and to carry out your own research using specialist software and equipment. Field courses, with zero-cost overseas options, are one highlight of the programme. It has been very enjoyable and I would not hesitate to recommend Keele to anyone who wants a quieter and friendly campus.
