BA (Hons), Sandwich With Time Abroad
, Duration: 4 Years
At Keele University, weâre different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. Weâre proud to be âUniversity of the Year for Student Experienceâ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because itâs more than green and lovely, itâs a place of research and academic excellence too.
At Keele, studying a combined honours degree will include some modules from both of the single honours degrees. In this case, your programme will be made up of a combination of modules from both Human Geography and Sociology.
With outstanding student satisfaction (NSS, 2017), no cost options for our overseas field courses, exceptional staff support for students, and a wide range of specialist option modules, Keele is a great place to study Human Geography and Sociology. We have a beautiful campus, excellent facilities and a really friendly atmosphere on our Human Geography and Sociology course.
While Sociology focuses on the social aspects of human behaviour, and critically examines social inequalities and social issues, Human Geography shows how humanity adapts to the environment and that all behaviour is shaped by its cultural and spatial context. The Human Geography programme will also take you to fascinating fieldwork destinations in the UK and overseas, where you will add to your growing skills in understanding and influencing the way humans relate
to the environment. You will study in the lab, the field and the archive, and you will explore the characteristics, diversity, interdependence and
changing nature of humanity in place. In Sociology you will gain a grounding in the key areas of the discipline: inequalities, social theory, and research methods. Our optional modules cover a wide range of topics including families, health, activism and protest, social media, globalisation, and urban life. You will be encouraged to think independently, critically, and imaginatively about the issues that shape our everyday lives and our futures.
The skills you will develop on this programme are useful for a wide range of careers. Our graduates have entered occupations including planning and development surveyor, logistics manager, residential surveyor, town planner, international development worker, transport planner or market
Alternatively you might move into work in the creative industries, social care, the health sector, advertising and marketing, the charity sector, youth services, and local government. Some of our graduates also choose to pursue further academic study.
