BA (Hons), Full-time Including Foundation Year
, Duration: 4 Years
At Keele University, weâre different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. Weâre proud to be âUniversity of the Year for Student Experienceâ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because itâs more than green and lovely, itâs a place of research and academic excellence too.
The Social Science Foundation Year is a well established course, providing the ideal preparation to study for a degree across a wide range of disciplines including law, politics, sociology, criminology, international relations and many more. Contemporary society is complex and ever evolving; this course offers the opportunity to develop questioning and analytical skills and to understand the issues and changing ideas in modern society. The social sciences seek to address difficult questions and offer answers that might point the way to a more just and sustainable future for humanity.
After you have completed your Social Science Foundation Year, you could progress on to the Human Geography course. This course will take you to fascinating fieldwork destinations in the UK and overseas, where youâll add to your growing skills in understanding and influencing the way humans relate to the environment. In the lab, the field and the archive, youâll explore the characteristics, diversity, interdependence and changing nature of places. Youâll understand the applications and possibilities Human Geography provides in solving problems, creating wealth and improving quality of life. Youâll collect and analyse spatial, social and environmental data, and become familiar with industry standard GIS software for analysing, visualising and integrating that data.
Human Geography at Keele was ranked in the top 10 nationally for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2016.
