Course details
Course UCAS code: ML32
Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 1 Years
Course Summary:
The course is a one year programme, ideal for those students who have completed a Law and Criminal Studies Foundation Degree, or who have extensive experience in the vocational area. The course is delivered full time, over a one year period in a specialist University Centre, by a small, committed and supportive team of lawyers and academics. The course differentiates from similar courses in its vocational focus, underpinned with the independent, self-selected and specialist research module. We aim to provide an intellectually challenging, high quality vocational programme in law and criminal studies, by offering a contemporary and vocationally relevant degree which is underpinned by research and will allow you to progressively advance your specialist academic skills and interests in law and criminal studies, whilst giving scope for any emergent vocational interests to develop.
Modules:
We want to progressively develop graduates who have strong general and specific academic skills and are confident independent learners, with an ability to specialise in any number of vocationally appropriate areas. The modules that you will study have a strong employability focus, including: - Policing & Social Control - Penology & Sentencing - Human Rights: Past, Present & Future - Criminal Litigation In addition to these career focused modules, you will also be expected to produce a self-directed piece of research on a related socio-legal dissertation question. You will be supported by one of a number of specialist tutors who have a range of subject specialisms. This is an opportunity for you to produce novel, methodologically sound, and in depth research on an aspect of a topic area that has sparked your interest throughout your studies. We look forward to hearing your ideas!
Assessment Methods:
Assessment will be continuous throughout the course, and take both a summative and formative form. We will assess you in various ways, including: presentations, vocationally focused written assignments, research proposal and project, electronic discussion boards and memos, professional discussions, exams, and class-based assessments. The assessment strategy for the course has been developed in line with industry standards, contemporary methods of working, and intensive student/academic consultation.
