The study of History helps you to understand how individuals, communities and societies have lived in the past and how those past experiences have helped to shape the present world. History helps us make sense of our world and understand what may lie ahead because the future is shaped by its history in so many ways. Our History degree gives you the **opportunity to study a wide-range of historical periods** and topics with elements in British, Irish, European and International History from the late medieval age to the twentieth century.
By studying with us, you can study a range of topics from the **Early Modern period to the Twentieth century**. You will engage with a wide variety of historical evidence throughout the whole of your degree programme. History at Liverpool Hope is part of the supportive and friendly environment of the Department of History and Politics. You will benefit from being **taught by a team of recognised scholars and experts in their fields** who are dedicated and experienced teachers and researchers and regular publishers of their research.
Throughout your degree, you will be able to take advantage of the rich library, archival, museum and heritage resources available in Liverpool and further afield, as well as benefit from our partnership with National Museums Liverpool. Working with the staff and resources of the World Museum, the new Museum of Liverpool and the Maritime Museum and its associated International Slavery Museum forms an important part of your learning experiences. The department runs a range of fieldwork activities every year in the local area and beyond, and offers the **opportunity for study visits to major European cities** each year.
**Media & Communication**
If you want an exciting career in the media but also want to understand how and why the media reports and represents the world in the ways it does, studying at Hope is the next step for you. Our degree is designed to **help you become an industry leader** who is equipped to take on the critical task of ensuring a more reliable, trustworthy media industry, whether you choose to work in television, radio, journalism, marketing or PR.
We think one of the best ways to study creativity is by making things, so you have the opportunity to make films (drama, documentary or animation), produce photographic portfolios, work in a studio and write screenplays. Our curriculum is taught by **lecturers with a reputation for international research** and by a practitioner who has made BAFTA and EMMY award winning programmes and animated films.
Media and Communication at Liverpool Hope is **underpinned by the notion of interrogating power**. Considering that I have social anxiety, being at hope has already helped me gain a lot more confidence and I am finding it a lot easier, and fun engaging in the uni life and socialising more so I think that I would rate my uni experience so far around a 3/5

Not been at university for very long but it's a small uni which concentrates more on the individual, feels very homely- loving it so far!
