Course details
Course UCAS code: C478
Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 3 Years
Course Summary:
**Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.** **Creative Writing** Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope will give you the chance to **experience the joys of crafting the written and spoken word**. Driven by creativity and employability, this degree focuses on literary and professional writing and will equip you with the ability to produce engaging, innovative and saleable texts. By studying Creative Writing, you will be empowered with an enhanced command of your craft, increased confidence in expressing your thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform your writing practice, and the technical skillset to deliver your work to various audiences. **Your writing will be enhanced by studying under celebrated writers and academics**, as well as developing a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers. The degree will often challenge you and ask you to reach beyond your own experience and interests into those of contemporary and historical communities. Using these as creative stimuli, you will be required to reflect upon social contexts, power, and how truth and justice can be communicated or miscommunicated through creative writing. By the end of the degree, you should have a **wide appreciation of forms, genres and applications**. Included in the degree are field trips to Wales, and Liverpool museums and galleries, which provide material for writing exercises as well as widening your student experience. **Dance** Dance can be described as a fluid art form. It is constantly changing, exposed to different cultural contexts, bodily histories and physical disciplines, as well as being influenced by political and social movements. This degree aims to *explore dance as a living social practice and dynamic art form, considering how dance throughout both eastern and western cultures has been cultivated through traditional training practices as well as more contemporary cultural influences. Dance at Liverpool Hope looks at the bodies, techniques, performances and histories that make up dance practice today both from an embedded perspective - as a source for developing material - and from a reflective position, combining both theoretical and practical approaches to learning. The **dance team are all professional practitioners and active researchers** whose specialist skills map into the diverse areas of site-specific choreography, multicultural dance and somatic practice. During your studies, you will have the **opportunity to work alongside professional visiting choreographers and dance artists**, performing at our Capstone Theatre for public audiences as well as developing a consistent studio practice through one to one and group seminars and regular dance classes and workshops. Here at Liverpool Hope we actively encourage students to consider their art form as an ethical and embodied practice, where dance can reflect some of the social and cultural concerns of our day.

It’s okay, there are enjoyable parts. Members of staff and Liverpudlians are very welcoming.

I originally studied music, and did not find the course, lecturers or staff in general very helpful. I changed course after second year, a process I am still trying to complete, with slight confusion and miscommunication from the university.
