Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time Including Foundation Year , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
This is a **four year degree** taught at our Hope Park campus. The **Foundation Year** aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme. **Creative Writing** Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope will give you the chance to experience the joys of crafting the written and spoken word. Driven by creativity and employability, this degree focuses on literary and professional writing and will equip you with the ability to produce engaging, innovative and saleable texts. By studying Creative Writing, you will be empowered with an enhanced command of your craft, increased confidence in expressing your thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform your writing practice, and the technical skillset to deliver your work to various audiences. Your writing will be enhanced by studying under celebrated writers and academics, as well as developing a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers. The degree will often challenge you and ask you to reach beyond your own experience and interests into those of contemporary and historical communities. Using these as creative stimuli, you will be required to reflect upon social contexts, power, and how truth and justice can be communicated or miscommunicated through creative writing. By the end of the degree, you should have a wide appreciation of forms, genres and applications. Included in the degree are field trips to Wales, and Liverpool museums and galleries, which provide material for writing exercises as well as widening your student experience. **English Literature** Do you have a passion for literature? Do you want to explore the relationships between literary texts, other media and the cultures that produce and consume them? Study English Literature at Liverpool Hope and you will encounter a wide variety of texts from medieval right through to contemporary literature. As much as possible we try to make the experience of literature come alive by not only studying texts in classrooms but also going on various local and national field trips. You will also be trained to read and analyse rare books and manuscripts from our library's Special Collections in courses on the history of the book and the history of publishing. During your years of study, you will gain a sound grasp of the contexts and approaches within which English literature can be studied, as well as gaining a sense of the development across periods of English literature. You expand your awareness of and sensitivity to the conventions and expectations that shape communication, and the dynamics of these within a given text. You also develop a critical appreciation of the ways in which knowledge of other disciplines and their relationships to English literature can contribute to a deeper understanding of literature. The academic staff teaching the degree have research expertise in a broad range of fields, from late medieval to contemporary literature. We pride ourselves on offering a challenging and stimulating degree, and our commitment to small group teaching allows us to help each individual student to develop sophisticated analytical and communication skills through working both independently and in groups. We strive to support you in the pursuit of academic excellence.
