Sport is a truly global industry and one that is rapidly expanding. As such, there are exciting opportunities for graduates with an understanding of the complex and varied sports industry combined with knowledge of business, finance and management.
This degree course is co-taught by the School of Business and Economics (one of the UK's leading business schools) and equips students with core business skills in marketing, organisational management and accounting, as well as a grounding in sports governance, policy and economic and finance issues.

Your first year at Loughborough will introduce you to material and concepts that provide a foundation for your subsequent study. You will study compulsory modules in Research, Employability and Academic Skills, as well an Introduction to Sport Management module. You will also cover the key management subjects of accounting, marketing, economics and organisations. An introduction to the wider social impacts of sport is provided through a compulsory module covering critical perspectives in sport. You will also select one optional module in either coaching or social science.
Your second year comprises compulsory modules in Research Methods and Sport Management in Practice. You will also study compulsory modules covering law, equity and inclusion, marketing and economics, accounting and human resource management. You will select one optional module in either coaching or social sciences.
Optional placement/study year:
Professional placement and/or overseas study.
In your final year you will undertake a compulsory dissertation in your chosen area of sport management. In completing your dissertation you will apply your research methods knowledge and draw on your experience of sport management concepts and knowledge learnt through your studies, your placements and other networks you have engaged with. You will study modules that critically explore the policy and governance of sport, its marketing and economics, and the strategic management of both events and organisations. You will also continue with an optional module in either coaching, or social sciences consistent with your choice in year 2.

Depending on the nature of the material, some modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination (for example 25% coursework and 75% examination), whilst other modules are assessed by 100% coursework or 100% by examination. Coursework is based on a variety of tasks including individual essays, projects, in-class tests, lab reports, contribution in tutorials, group work and presentations.

Loughborough is an incredible university. The halls are excellent, clean and spacious, and the uni makes everything really exciting in first year with so much to get involved in. The sports and exercise facilities at the uni are really amazing too. There are so many great support structures and opportunities to join the union, as well as special campaigns, like Play With Pride, so you'll feel welcome and inspired throughout your studies.

I cannot think of any reason why students shouldn't come here. We have every society from Harry Potter to YouTube. There is a healthy competition between halls which makes freshers' week extra interesting.
