Course Summary:
Biochemistry is a rapidly developing, constantly advancing field of study - the branch of science that explores the chemical processes within, and related to, living organisms. The discoveries of biochemists are vital to our understanding of human life, health and disease. They will help us solve global challenges, like our ageing population, and find cures, interventions and ways to improve our health. Today is an incredible time to become part of this fascinating area of study, with opportunities for highly-skilled biochemists both wide-ranging and likely to grow. This exciting course offers a thorough grounding in biology and chemistry, with an emphasis on practical laboratory work. The programme is centred on molecular level processes and effects, particularly focusing on those of importance for human health. Over the duration of the course you will explore fundamental chemistry, cell biology, genetics and molecular biology, cellular signalling and genomics, while optional modules allow you to delve into the genetics of health, drug metabolosm, virology and oncology. Drawing on Loughborough's multidisciplinary expertise in areas like regenerative medicine, health, nutrition and physical activity, our Biochemistry MSci degree is one of our recently launched courses in Biosciences made possible by STEMLab - £17 million investment in new state-of-the-art laboratory facilities including a suite of bio-laboratories.
