Creative Writing at our Manchester campus is taught by world-renowned writers from the Manchester Writing School, one of the most successful of its kind in the UK, with over 85 published graduates. The Creative Director of the Manchester Writing School is the Poet Laureate, Professor Carol Ann Duffy DBE.
This course enables students to study and practice creative writing alongside English critical studies, and to select option choices from a wide range including American literature, film, television and cultural studies. You will explore genres and understand these in terms of their formal and thematic properties as well as the relationship between poetry, prose and drama and other forms of fiction. You will also have the opportunity to consider the reasons why writers make generic and formal choices, and in your own creative writing, you are encouraged to experiment in genres and forms, engaging critically with issues raised by each. In year three of the course you will write a long creative project of your choice under the supervision of a practising writer.
