Newcastle is as fun a university you can hope for in the UK, while retaining its academic status as expected from one in the Russell Group. The Students’ Union is excellent here, with events, societies, sports clubs, good student care, and careers advice. Campus is a simple zebra crossing away from the high street. The average price of a pint is about £2.80. It’s as low as £2.20 at the SU bar. Trebles are often discounted if you know where to look. In all, why live in London like a pauper, when you can live like a lord in Newcastle?

I think all the things I have mentioned to answer previous questions can be repeated here.

Medicine at Newcastle is highly regarded. In my experience the course is strong, varied and I really enjoy being a student here. In fact, there was a study showing that Newcastle students achieved third (after Oxbridge) in the MRCP (postgraduate medical) exams. However the teaching in social science really does let it down, as it is examined. Libraries are available until late and clusters 24/7 (even on Christmas apparently, if that’s your thing). Staff are approachable. The night life is crazy, and cheap, which is a plus. Medics are highly sociable - even though you will probably end up mingling within the course, you will not feel isolated in any way. Accommodation is good value. In fact, everything is - you won’t get much better anywhere else. Newcastle has a number of funds available to widening access students, and are eager to help such students join the university. Choose Newcastle Medicine if you are good in the UCAT and would like an integrated course structure.
