If you are creative, caring and compassionate about the rights and needs of people with a learning disability, then you can become a highly-skilled member of the nursing profession.
You will be taught at our Coach Lane Campus by staff that are experienced and highly motivated.
Cutting-edge teaching in the form of lectures, seminars, workshops, directed learning packages as well as simulated practice in our highly-regarded Clinical Skills Centre, supports your learning within BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies/Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities).
You will also undertake practice placements within NHS Trusts throughout the North East as 50% of the course takes place in practice areas.
Our graduate nurses are highly sought after in the jobs market â so much so that students can find that they have multiple offers before completion of their studies. Former graduates, as well as working as registered learning disability nurses, are employed as school nurses, nurse therapists, in drug and alcohol services, in child mental health services, in senior management, as community and clinical liaison nurses and in other specialist settings.
Upon graduation you will obtain Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a qualified nurse, ensuring that you are fit for practice in the challenging and inspirational field of learning disability nursing.
In line with the principles and values which underpin the NHS constitution, the University expects all students undertaking programmes which lead to registration as a health professional to demonstrate the NHS values.
