The Sport, Coaching and Physical Education degree is an exciting, employability-orientated and professionally directed degree for those with aspirations to coach sport and gain a broader understanding of the sporting sector in the process. It is balanced between providing insight which comes from key practical involvement in sport as well as demonstrating accompanying theoretical underpinning which provides context and philosophy.
In Year 1 you will undertake a compulsory introductory programme which includes modules on the theory and practice of sport coaching, effective coaching practice, sport pedagogies, skill in sport (learning and mechanics), exercise physiology with anatomy and sport sociology. In Year 2 you have opportunities for choice and specialisation. Modules in work experience, research methods and coaching practice to theory are compulsory whilst students choose to develop their knowledge in physiology, psychology or sociology. Options in sport and exercise training principles, biomechanics, sports nutrition, professional practice and sports development are also offered at this level. In your final year you can further specialise in research related modules in applied sports psychology, advanced social theory, advanced coaching and integrated approaches to training, dissertations, independent study and special studies in sport.

Oxford Brookes was amazing! The campus was beautiful, really modern and clean, and the facilities there were great. Our course had a good mix of practical applied work and theoretical stuff in lectures, and it really gave me a deep understanding that I could use after my degree. Speaking of, the Careers service was also top notch, and they had loads of stuff going on that helped me walk straight into graduate employment. The student support services were also really comprehensive, with lots of financial and accommodation advice which helped ease my mind a lot.
