BSc (Hons), Sandwich Including Industrial Placement
, Duration: 4 Years
Statistics is essential to making advances in science, technology, business and public policy, and a fascinating field of study in itself.
This BSc combines rigorous all-round mathematical training with in-depth study of statistics. If you want to take your study of statistics deeper and develop mathematical research skills, consider our four-year Mathematics with Statistics MSci.
You'll spend your first year building a foundation across pure, discrete, decision and modern applied mathematics, probability and statistics. From the second year you'll specialise in statistics, building statistical theory and methodology on mathematical foundations, especially probability theory. Probabilistic modelling has applications in genetics, quantum physics and risk analysis, and is increasingly used in the financial sector. You can study design of experiments, financial time series and actuarial mathematics.
A choice of modules in your second and third years allows you to focus on the aspects of statistics that most interest you, or broaden your studies to encompass other areas of mathematics. You can also align your studies to your career goals, choosing modules on programming, insurance, computational statistics or teaching.
Calculus I and II
Computing and Data Analysis with Excel
Essential Mathematical Skills
Introduction to Algebra
Introduction to Probability
Numbers, Sets and Functions
Probability and Statistics I

Most of your modules will be assessed by an examination worth at least 90 per cent of the year's study, with the remainder covered by coursework and tests. Some BSc students will also complete a final-year project.

This is a great uni. It is close to public transport, whilst also having an array of cheap take out, restaurants and fast food options for students. The freshers events are great to make friends and get involved. Don't miss any! The departments are very friendly by letting people change courses, providing links to careers website and going the extra effort to provide the best experience. It's very diverse in culture and backgrounds and reflects the London environment.

Queen Mary overall is a really good university, good teaching staff at Charterhouse Square, good facilities, good social life. Areas of improvement would be more study space at CHSQ, and more focus on dyslexia/disability service.
