Course Summary:
Sociologists make a difference to our society. Could you? Sociologists aim to understand people's behaviour as social beings, but also the wider social, cultural, political and economic factors influencing our ever-changing world. - How is our relationship with our mobile phones changing the way we live? - Is social media making our lives more or less stressful? - If you're one of the millions tuning in to Love Island, do you wonder why we are so fascinated with celebrity and reality TV? - How will an obsession with video games, like Fortnite, effect children now, and the adults they grow to be? - Will the thousands who have suffered unemployment continue to be affected by the experience after they have found work? - Do social movements like #MeToo and #BLM change society? The Sociology degree focuses on applying knowledge and theory to real life situations, including health and medicine, social care and education. We help you to develop your 'sociological imagination' to understand our social world in-depth as well as develop social science research skills. This will provide you with transferable skills, which you can use in your personal and professional development. These are skills that employers are looking for; to think quickly and creatively, to collect and critically evaluate evidence, to construct arguments around complex local, national and global issues. **Course structure** During your time as a Sociology student at Swansea University your learning will be supported through lectures, seminars, student-led activities and e-learning materials. We are committed to developing our students as researchers, team-players, leaders and managers. You will be taught by an academic team who are research active and widely published keeping pace with the most current global social science debates. You will learn how to generate new knowledge and information using a variety of tools from large social surveys interpreted through statistics through to in-depth interviews. **You will also have learning opportunities through:** - Work placements - Additional study sessions to support assessments - Blackboard discussion groups, blogs and other learning opportunities such as TED talks, Podcasts and YouTube. - Accessing modules from other degree programmes. - Research groups **We guarantee that you will be made a conditional offer for 2019 for a course at Swansea University. Subject requirements will apply. Please come along to our next Open Day or get in touch for further information.**

I loved Swansea so much – I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the place blew me away. Wind Street is the best! There are so many things to do, although my favourite was talking the walk along the coast to Mumbles, a tiny fishing village, getting a cup of tea in the local café and getting away from it all for a while. Everyone was incredible open and welcoming, the beach was stunning and host to some very good memories, the course was amazing and my tutors were so inspiring. Everyone’s been so friendly and supportive.
