Course details
Course UCAS code: F103
Qualification type:
  • MChem (H), Full-time , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
Develop practical and theoretical skills across all areas of chemistry, leading to a broad range of chemical and non-chemical careers. As a chemist, you can move seamlessly between areas such as forensics, drug development and nanotechnology. You’ll be able to keep your options open on which area to specialise in until later in the degree. All of our chemistry degrees have the same core units in the first year which gives you the flexibility to switch courses. In the first two years, you’ll get a broad introduction to all areas of chemistry while developing the practical and theoretical skills modern chemists need. This includes understanding the theories of chemical behaviour and how they are applied. You will also develop skills in experimental chemistry and in designing experiments to test hypotheses. As well as becoming an expert in chemical science, you will be a numerate, critical thinker, well-prepared for a wide range of careers in research, academia and industry. You can specialise in a particular field in later years through optional units and a final year project. You’ll draw upon the expertise of academics in the Department and could even contribute to the world-leading research being carried out. There will also be opportunities for you to put your chemistry knowledge into practice in research laboratories and other professional environments outside the University, such as public engagement events and work in schools. The Master of Chemistry (MChem) provides you with the same core skills and knowledge of the bachelor’s but with a greater exposure to research and advanced practical techniques, including a major research project throughout the final year.

Bath University - where, thanks to the name, some societies are called BRA, BUMS and BUST and being part of them is just as much of a laugh. It takes at most a 15 minute walk from one end of the campus to another, you'll pass the many things that the campus has to offer. The lake, the library, the coffee shop, the canteen, people singing and dancing, the post office, the shop, the bar.. you name it. The university came top for satisfaction in 2013 and the city is one of the safest places to be. If the uni doesn't have something the city will, and both are absolutely beautiful.

To put it briefly: It might hard to settle in at first but stick with it. The Uni of Bath has the best mix of an amazing, safe, pretty city just minutes away; modern facilities, the best accommodation and superb support systems.
