Course Summary:
Accounting and finance play a crucial role in the management and survival of businesses and contribute to the economic growth of a country. The world needs accountants and finance professionals who can record, classify, summarise, interpret and communicate financial information necessary for making informed strategic choices for businesses to grow. These professionals will also help businesses follow correct accounting standards and comply with the law. The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance at the University of Bedfordshire will help you develop a better understanding of accounting standards and financial regulations and provide the skills and techniques needed for making informed investment decisions in dynamic business environments. This course will also help you understand the power and limitations of accountancy and financial techniques and how they complement other subject areas, particularly those which fall under the wider umbrella of business. This course integrates a practical and applied approach to your study, enabling you to apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world business cases. You will be well-placed to enter a wide range of interesting and rewarding careers within either accountancy or finance. With exemptions from the professional examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Association of International Accountants (AIA), this course will give you the edge in the job market.
Modules:
Year 1; This common first year across all our accountancy courses provides you with a broad understanding of key concepts and techniques. Core units in this year include: Introduction to Accounting and Finance, Business Pod Year 2; Along with the core elements of your degree, you will have the chance to tailor your studies to your individual interests, i.e. if you want to focus more on accounting or finance. Core units in this year include: Practice Weeks: Career Planning, Intermediate Financial Reporting, Intermediate Management Accounting, Intermediate Financial Management, Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation, Project Management Options; Economics of International Finance (Finance Pathway), Intermediate Auditing (Accounting Pathway), Intermediate Taxation (Accounting Pathway) Year 3; You will also undertake a project or dissertation, which allows you to carry out an in-depth investigation on your chosen subject. Core units in this year include: Advanced Financial Reporting, Advanced Management Accounting, Advanced Financial Management, Specialist Project in Accounting and Finance, Practice Weeks: The Future You Options; Economic Policy in the Age of Globalization (Finance Pathway), Economics of the European Union (Finance Pathway), Advanced Auditing (Accounting Pathway), Advanced Taxation (Accounting Pathway)
Assessment Methods:
A number of different assessment methods contribute to your development and help you achieve your goals and enhance your employability throughout this course. Feedback will be provided in due time so it is integrated in the learning process. It's really great being a student here - the uni and students do their best to make you feel very welcome and there's plenty of resources and help available. The 24/7 library is also a massive plus if you burn the midnight oil like me. The teachers give really good lectures, explaining things in depth and always available to help out, The Union is great, with amazing support services.
