Course details
Course UCAS code: H102
Qualification type:
  • Fd cert, Full-time , Duration: 1 Years
Course Summary:
The Engineering International Foundation Year gives you the skills you need to start an Engineering degree if you do not currently have the necessary mathematics or science qualifications. You will need an IELTs of 5.5 in English to study the programme. Successful completion enables you to go onto the first year of any of the following BEng courses: *Chemical Engineering *Civil and Structural Engineering *Mechanical Engineering *Biomedical Engineering If you achieve a grade of 70% or above you are also able to progress directly to our four or five-year integrated Master’s programmes (MEng). The Foundation Year gives you a strong grounding in the engineering fundamentals of mathematics, physics and materials. You’ll get an overview of each Engineering area, enabling you to choose the right discipline for you. You’ll learn theory and apply this knowledge in varied practical work. The curriculum is aligned with year one of our BEng programmes, ensuring a smooth transition to your degree level studies. You will also take an Academic Reading and Writing module which will strengthen your English, and is taught in a technical engineering context. **Professional accreditation** If you proceed onto one of our BEng (Hons) or MEng courses from the Foundation Year, these courses are accredited by the relevant professional institution.
Modules:
Year 1: Course modules have a flexibility depending on your chosen specialist area of Engineering, with fundamental core modules providing a grounding for all Engineering disciplines. Academic Reading and Writing (core) Foundation Mathematics 1 (core) Foundation Mathematics 2 (core) Foundation Mechanics (core) Foundation Physics (core) Fundamentals of Materials (core)
Assessment Methods:
Most modules use a mixture of formal lectures, tutorials and seminars. Some modules involve supervised group work, usually with an assigned academic staff member for each group. All modules require students to undertake independent study, supported through distance learning technologies such as our Virtual Learning Environment. Reading lists and suggested resources for independent study provide further direction for students to undertake this work, and regular contact hours and informal feedback throughout the courses provide opportunities for further guidance for learners. Assessments for modules mostly take the form of practical coursework and written exams..

The societies are really welcoming! The campus is compact and really fun! As for the city, new student pubs are sprouting up everywhere and there's loads of great films to see at the BIFF every year,. It may not be the most glam city in the country, but there’s plenty to see and do in Bradford and it’s great for students.

Provisional for Year 1 for International at £12,190

I have found that being at a slightly smaller university means that I receive a better learning experience. I know all of my lecturers on a first name basis, and most of them know me. It is easy to be involved, both with the course and with sports and societies and I feel like the university has prepared me well for getting a good job in my field.

The university of Bradford is a very diverse and vibrant place where everything is at one place and it is easy to get lost in all the activities that are available as there is just so much to do. The academics are very supportive and due to fairly small university everyone can get to know each other and there is always somebody who can support and help with any issues arising. Based on my experience I would recommend university of Bradford to anyone!
