This civil engineering course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) and has an extra year of study at foundation level, making it suitable for students who have non-scientific qualifications, or are applying as a mature student with alternative qualifications but with the experience to undertake an honours degree. The practical approach of the course and the placement opportunities help prepare students for a career as a civil engineer. Students are taught by staff who are active in research and consultancy, and benefit from access to specialist facilities including a concrete lab, hydraulics lab, soils lab, geotechnical centrifuge, dynamics lab and computer suite with specialist software.

I would recommend Brighton to anyone, it’s an amazing city for students! It’s nice and compact, with everything in walking distance and loads of pubs, clubs, shops to try out. It’s a little bit expensive, but with budgeting you’ll be able to sample the best the town has to offer. The accommodation is only twenty minutes out from town on regular 24 hour buses, so the nights out never end. My course has loads of contact hours, with passionate and fiercely intellectual lecturers who give fast, 24/7 feedback.

Good university for the course, good city to live in and experience, support where you would need it with anything from housing to career advice.

Hard to rate a university when I have nothing else to compare it to... My course does not afford me much free time. I work hard and spend free time with friends. If you are looking for good sports societies go elsewhere. If you are looking for a busy city with plenty of eccentric people then Brighton is a good bet.
