Classics at Cambridge isnât just studied as a period in the past, it also looks at how classical culture, language and philosophy have affected the history of Western civilisation right up to the present day. Our course encompasses the history, culture, archaeology, art, philosophy and linguistics of classical antiquity and the study of original texts and artefacts. You can either specialise in a particular field or retain the breadth with which the course starts. The four-year course is for those with little or no Latin, and offers a preliminary year which focuses on Latin language and Roman culture.

Cambridge is everything the Oxbridge stereotype tells you - it's challenging, it's grand, it's academically focused, it's stunningly beautiful and it's intense. But it's also everything the stereotype doesn't tell you - it's still a normal student experience. The town has everything you could possibly want or need within a few minutes walk of most colleges (yes, even nightlife, provided you don't mind cheesy music); it has student clubs for every sport, art form and interest under the sun (including an Ice Cream Appreciation society); and it's filled with the most diverse, friendly and accepting group of people you'll ever meet.
