Course Summary:
With global economics rarely out of the news, this challenging and rewarding degree provides a thorough grounding in the range of skills required by the modern economist. Through studying a mix of theoretical and applied modules, you'll be trained to think like an economist and to apply rigorous, tried and tested techniques that give insight and guidance to government and business. You can take a number of optional modules in the fields of development economics, public sector economics and international financial economics. Economics as a degree places emphasis on numerical and problem-solving skills. This is reflected in the destinations of economics graduates as almost half of those working full-time in the UK enter professions that fall within the category of business, finance and associate professions. Our graduates have pursued a wide variety of careers – market analysts, financial analysts, retail managers, entrepreneurs, civil servants and academics. The subject is recognised as an intellectually demanding preparation for a wide range of professional occupations requiring high levels of both literacy and numeracy.

Preston’s such a lovely student city – there’s something on each night and the prices are amazing, it’s really geared toward students. Warehouse and The Ship Inn saw the most of my nights out in town. It’s not really a bustling metropolis, but less distractions = more work done! And if you’re wanting a huge night, Liverpool’s about half an hour on the train and is amazing. My course is great, with fascinating, empathetic teachers who really support and encourage us, and the facilities are top notch. The Student Union is also incredibly supportive, and they always have time for us.

Honestly I could not recommend UCLan anymore than I am. I wholeheartedly believe that the lecturers are there to help you learn and grow as a person rather to just keep up rankings. You are made to feel like an individual and not just another student.
