This 20 month course transforms registered adult nurses into registered midwives. The programme is designed to prepare to meet the needs of the childbearing population and the maternity services. You will have the privilege of helping women and families enjoy positive and healthy pregnancy and birth experiences.
You will have the opportunity to join the UCLan Midwifery Society and Passionate Midwifery Forum.
Your midwifery qualifications and experience will open up a wide range of options to develop your career in the directions that interest you most. As your knowledge and expertise increase, you could move into more senior practitioner roles, become a team or unit manager or move into other professions, including neonatal nursing or health visiting. Registration with the NMC as a registered Midwife will allow you to work independently as a private practitioner. UK trained Midwives hold an international recognised and respected qualification and the profession is much sort after the world over.
We offer many progression routes for graduates including various Masters programmes and research opportunities.
Please note that tuition fees for this course are paid via an NHS Bursary . You need to be on the NMC Register and currently practicing as a Registered General (adult) Nurse with at least 12 months experience in an acute setting, and be resident in the UK for three years, to be eligible for the NHS funding. Preston’s such a lovely student city – there’s something on each night and the prices are amazing, it’s really geared toward students. Warehouse and The Ship Inn saw the most of my nights out in town. It’s not really a bustling metropolis, but less distractions = more work done! And if you’re wanting a huge night, Liverpool’s about half an hour on the train and is amazing. My course is great, with fascinating, empathetic teachers who really support and encourage us, and the facilities are top notch. The Student Union is also incredibly supportive, and they always have time for us.
Honestly I could not recommend UCLan anymore than I am. I wholeheartedly believe that the lecturers are there to help you learn and grow as a person rather to just keep up rankings. You are made to feel like an individual and not just another student.
