Our course is for those with enthusiasm, passion and intellectual curiosity about all things American. Located within our Interdisciplinary Studies Centre, we bring together academics from across the University. Our focus stretches across the world giving you a unique opportunity to look at issues and subjects in new and exciting ways. Our courses are highly flexible and you are taught by internationally recognised experts. We believe that the best way to learn about a culture is to immerse yourself in it, which is why you spend a year studying at a partner university in the United States.
Many of our courses offer a choice of optional modules to tailor your learning experience. More information about these can be found on the University of Essex website.

Essex was amazing! The campus was seriously beautiful, had many a lovely afternoon sat by the lake on campus trying to revise. There’s a great community feel here, everyone is very friendly and there are amazing support services at the Union. Be sure to pick the right accommodation – if you’re ready to party every night, stay at the Towers, where no-one ever sleeps! If you’re a quieter type, the South Courts are a bit more relaxed although there’s still parties to be had. My teachers were also amazing, and I had a great time on my course.
