Course details
Course UCAS code: RX91
Qualification type:
  • BA (Hons), Full-time , Duration: 4 Years
Course Summary:
Studying languages opens doors to new horizons. You study one or two modern languages with a selection of English language modules focusing on teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL). Our courses are unique because they have a triple focus on developing language proficiency, cultural awareness and professional skills – not only translation/interpreting skills, but also web and publishing skills, and film production and video-editing skills such as subtitling and voiceover. At the same time you obtain the skills to succeed as a language teacher. You spend your third year abroad experiencing, engaging with and integrating into another culture, either by a period of study at a partner university or by working as a language assistant.
Modules:
Many of our courses offer a choice of optional modules to tailor your learning experience. More information about these can be found on the University of Essex website.
Application deadline details:

15 January

Essex was amazing! The campus was seriously beautiful, had many a lovely afternoon sat by the lake on campus trying to revise. There’s a great community feel here, everyone is very friendly and there are amazing support services at the Union. Be sure to pick the right accommodation – if you’re ready to party every night, stay at the Towers, where no-one ever sleeps! If you’re a quieter type, the South Courts are a bit more relaxed although there’s still parties to be had. My teachers were also amazing, and I had a great time on my course.

Very good university if you don’t like big crowds and have a hard time making friends. Everyone is friendly and theres always things to do. Learning is explained so carefully and it is easy to do.
