Turn your passion into a career. Studying sports and exercise science at Essex will help you to understand the biology, physiology, biomechanics and psychology or sport, exercise and physical activity. Our course is endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). Practical work in your first two years provides you with the professional and scientific skills that you need to conduct your own research project in your final year. You work with elite athletes and gain work experience in our Human Performance Unit. If you are considering a career in coaching or teaching you can get financial support from our Sports Federation to take level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications. Your third year spent abroad gives you the chance to gain more experience and become even more employable.
Many of our courses offer a choice of optional modules to tailor your learning experience. More information about these can be found on the University of Essex website.

Essex was amazing! The campus was seriously beautiful, had many a lovely afternoon sat by the lake on campus trying to revise. There’s a great community feel here, everyone is very friendly and there are amazing support services at the Union. Be sure to pick the right accommodation – if you’re ready to party every night, stay at the Towers, where no-one ever sleeps! If you’re a quieter type, the South Courts are a bit more relaxed although there’s still parties to be had. My teachers were also amazing, and I had a great time on my course.
