Financial crisis. Unemployment. Immigration. Market competition. Economics helps us shape the present and improve our future. You experience all aspects of economics and mathematics but instead of quantitative research methods, you study similar topics from the perspective of mathematical sciences, including statistics, linear algebra and calculus. Our BSc Economics with Mathematics is more economics focused than BSc Mathematics with Economics. In your first year, you have the opportunity to take optional modules from across the social sciences. During your second year, you build on these skills, taking modules in Econometric and Mathematical Methods and Optimisation. Your third year spent abroad at no extra cost gives you the chance to gain more experience and become even more employable. In your final year you specialise in areas that you find most interesting, which can include advanced economics modules.

Essex was amazing! The campus was seriously beautiful, had many a lovely afternoon sat by the lake on campus trying to revise. There’s a great community feel here, everyone is very friendly and there are amazing support services at the Union. Be sure to pick the right accommodation – if you’re ready to party every night, stay at the Towers, where no-one ever sleeps! If you’re a quieter type, the South Courts are a bit more relaxed although there’s still parties to be had. My teachers were also amazing, and I had a great time on my course.
